Sommelier and wine consultant Doreen Winkler hates it when people describe orange wine as a trend. In fact, she grimaces when we mention recent headlines that have decried it as the wine world’s latest fad.
But Winkler, who has worked with a plethora of New York City restaurants including Aska, Aldea and Sel Rrose, has made it her life’s blood. “At Aska I really got to experiment with natural wines, particularly orange wines, and saw that there was a lot of interest in them years ago.”
She credits her time there with planting the seed that eventually brought Orange Glou, her new orange wine club and delivery service that promises to offer its customers access to sought-after natural wines she has handpicked, into her life.
Subscribers who buy into the service can choose a three- or six-bottle monthly membership package ($105/$195) filled with leading wines from around the world. A limited box set includes a selection of orange wines from Slovakia, Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria and more.
