French haute couture house Maison Margiela is teaming up with iconic sneaker brand Reebok to unveil its latest creative collaboration: the Zig CR.
Released to stores on August 26th, the lace-less shoe functions similarly to a mule or clog, but is transformed through the classic language of the sneaker. Available in triple white, triple black and a graphic tricolor in black, white and red, its color and construction was inspired by 19th century sports shoes, sandals and loafers.
Maison Margiela creative director John Galliano spearheaded the effort, drawing from Reebok’s 1997 archives that heavily featured the company’s DMX trainers. The shoe, both flexible and durable, features a neoprene heel cap and rubberized leather toe guard folded into a clamshell construction.
Set on an EVA sole with TPU inserts and a neoprene heel cap, the Zig CR features a flexible and durable TPU upper with a rubberized leather toe guard and a clamshell construction that folds in the middle. Through Maison Margiela’s decortiqué technique of cuts, the shoe is reproduced with funky flair. The Zig CR, Maison Margiela × Reebok Zig CR ($990). maisonmargiela.com
