Elusive chanteuse Mariah Carey has teamed up with Swiss jewelry house, Chopard, to unveil a sparkling new butterfly-inspired collection fans of her music will love.
Deemed a “collaboration with wings,” Carey worked closely with Chopard’s co-president and artistic director, Caroline Scheufele, to pay homage to her iconic “Butterfly” single, which came out nearly 25 years ago.
The butterfly has become synonymous with Carey’s music career–an enduring staple that appealed to Chopard when designing timeless jewelry for their Happy Butterfly x Mariah Carey Collection. Each piece, whether a ring, bangle, set of earrings or necklace, bears the wings of a butterfly in a variety of colors: gold, rose gold and white gold, with diamonds centerstage.
“There was this beautiful Chopard butterfly-themed silk scarf that Caroline surprised me with as a gift, and it was sitting there on the table with a note… I had just received the Diamond Award for one of my songs and really wanted to celebrate the moment,” Carey said, in a behind-the-scenes video highlighting the collaboration. “I reached out to Caroline, and as we spoke about the concept, she started sketching this unbelievable butterfly diamond necklace. That’s still my most memorable moment of co-designing this collection.”
